Post Malone's "Rockstar" Will Challenge Taylor Swift & Cardi B For No. 1 On Hot 100
This is now a three-way race, according to Billboard.
Taylor Swift's "Look What You Made Me Do" and Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" won't be the only songs battling for the No. 1 spot on next week's Billboard Hot 100. According to Billboard, Post Malone's "Rockstar," a 21 Savage-assisted single released last week, has a chance of making it's debut in the top spot.
According to data acquired on Friday, Post Malone's track could put up 40 million U.S. streams and 70,000 sales. It's also growing on radio. These numbers put in the same league as Swift's "LWYMMD," which is looking at something like 30 million U.S. streams, 45,000 downloads and 75 million in radio audience. Swift has claimed No. 1 for the last three weeks.
The other big contender is Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow," which has seen immense growth in popularity over the last month. As of last week, it hit its peak at No. 2, and stands to bring in over 35 million U.S. streams, 60 million airplay impressions, and 45,000 sales for next week's charts.
If Post Malone is able to debut at No. 1 this week, it will make "Rockstar" one of 28 singles in history to do so. Songs that have achieved the rare feat include Michael Jackson's "You Are Not Alone," Mariah Carey's "Fantasy," and Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)." Within the last year both Ed Sheeran's "Shape Of You" and DJ Khaled's "I'm The One" have charted at No. 1 in their first week on the Hot 100.
If Post does dethrone Taylor, it will be a disappointment to Cardi B fans, who have been rooting for the Bronx rapper over the last few weeks. Cardi recently thanked her supporters for helping her soar up the charts. "Thank you so much for making 'Bodak Yellow' No. 2 on the [Hot 100]," she said in an Instagram video. "I can't believe this shit and, just to know that I might make it to No. 1, it's just like, I don't know, like, it's a crazy feeling. A bitch like me ... I never expected that shit like this would be fucking happening to me [and] it's all thanks to y'all."
Stay tuned for the official Hot 100 placements to be announced early next week.
